in new york city, the nation's largest public school operation, educators have softened the discipline code. so now students can curse at their teachers and simply get a reprimand. no suspension, just a little scolding. new york city education spokeswoman margie feinberg said new rules will keep the kids who commit low level infractions in class where they can learn from their mistakes. yeah. sure. as a former teacher, i know if the system allows students to curse out teachers in front of all students, all discipline breaks down. by the way, that's one of the reasons i said -- send my kids to catholic school in new york state. disrespect is everywhere. on the net, troubled people say the most horrendous things hiding behind their machines. on television reality program off the chart irresponsible. shows like jersey shore and this idiot thing in west virginia debase our culture all day long. the miami judge may have overreacted a bit, but he should be applauded. america has got to get back to basics. if we don't respect each other, we are headed for big trouble. i believe we are headed

incredible stuff. the hardest forecast is the new york city because the temperatures are kind of borderline. it may start as snow, go over to rain, a little sleet and back over to snow late. that's why the snow totals for new york, i have them down to six to ten inches. if it's all snow, it could be as much as 14 inches in new york city. that's the big question mark. hartford's going to get nailed, also all the way to southern portions of new hampshire and portland, maine. i mentioned temperatures. notice it's 38 in philly, 34 in baltimore. that's why southwards i don't think you'll get much out of this at all. that's why d.c.'s not getting snow. look how cold it is in the new england area. this is how it plays out. again, the bottom line, the worst of the storm arrives after noon today. so if you're in northern jersey, new york city area, long island, connecticut, hudson valley all the way through eastern mass and rhode island, do not be on the roads after noon today. that's the most important message everyone needs to know because if you do that and you get stuck on the roads, it's going

of the mill shootings that ravage cities every day. gun violence is gun violence. hideya pendleton was a high school student. she played volleyball. she performed with her school's marching band at president obama's marching band last month. that was january 21st. on january 29th, she and friends caught cover because of rain. it was only a mile from barack and michelle's home in chicago. a person with a gun approached the group and started shooting. hideya pendleton was not the shooter's target, however. on saturday in chicago, there will be a funeral service for hideya pendleton. the white house let it be known to be that first lady michelle obama will be at the funeral, which will make this even more of a national scale tragedy than it already is. the hardest. the city has closed schools. people have also been warned to be ready for possible outages. thousands of flights have been canceled the head of the storm. many of them here in chicago. much quieter today than usual. the morning rush of people hopping onto flights to places like new york and boston. throughout the morning passengers heading east knew they were racing a major blizzard. i had to get to boston. this was the only option. i have so many things went up from there. canceled over 3000 flights nationwide. a majority to new york and new england. chicago is headed to the new york toy fair. he says flying this time of year is always a gamble. house on the tarmac of stock in the airport. incidents like that one is why airports and airportairlines prepare before storms. and happen this morning at the corner of spruce and glenview. one of sliding into the front yard of some homes. the bus just missed a tree. the snowplow driver was ticketed for disobeying a stop sign. >> manhunt for a former police officer may be hampered by the snow. his truck was found near big bear lak

new york city, they could get upwards of a foot of snow. snow and wind as the system gets off the coast and really starts affecting the northeast. in new england it's a full-out blizzard with 1 to 2 feet of snowfall. you're looking at the start times here. for us, it's friday morning as rain. for areas around new york, it's friday early afternoon. they by friday evening, up into eastern new england. again, significant travel delays for the northeast, probably all out coming to a spot in areas. so just a newsens storm for us, but a full-out blizzard with high winds, a lot of snow, and big-time snow drifts occurring throughout areas of new england. it's not just one storm, but two storms. area of low pressure down to the south. another area of low pressure off to the west around chicago, that will both start merging just as they get past us to the northeast. so we'll never get that merging occurring right here. take a look at storm team 4 radar, quiet, nothing good on right now. the snow or rain will start here for us. areas that could see just a bit of a wintry mix with snow, m

forecasting for new york city on that one. it is on the rain-snow line the temperature may be a little bit too warm tomorrow to accumulate any of the snow during the daytime. tomorrow night that changes. it will cross over to snow. 7:00 p.m. all snow in boston. entire storm is snow in boston. that is why accumulation there will be so great. new york city, at least according to a lot of models we're looking at, probably not getting below freezing until later tomorrow night that is when the snow significantly accumulates. we're off by 30, 40 miles one direction or the another. there could be snow longer period. that would increase snowfall totals. take a look what at least for now we're forecasting for snowfall totals. a bull's-eye two to three feet west of boston. worcester hills, nash issue waa, new hampshire. a big swath of this getting a foot and a half of snow and 6 to 12 here in new york city. if it gets colder that number could be higher. i don't think it will happen but have a lot of uncertainty for at least in new york city for this time. not uncertain about boston but new york city sti

a difficult forecast. if you live up in new england down towards areas around new york city, maybe even new jersey, pennsylvania, pay attention. storm coming your way. possibly the most significant winter storm of the season. right now the storm is just growing. it's in an infancy down in areas of texas providing heavy rain south of san antonio on 35, across 37 and also interstate 10 will be a wet ride between houston and san antonio. all of that rain spreads in the next 48 hours through the southeast including atlanta especially tonight into tomorrow. heavy rain through the carolinas. this is what really catches my attention. this is one of our more reliable extended forecasts. this is where the center of the storm would be on friday. early in the morning. as we go throughout the day, the storm intensifies just off of cape cod. and then at this point, the heavy snow machine would go into work, especially across new england late friday, friday through the overnight into saturday morning. this area of shaded colors here is a foot-plus for almost all of new england. the exceptions being north

: adam housley live for us. adam, thanks. the new york city woman beaten to death in turkey may have had a secret lover. this is new today. her name is sarai sierra. she was supposed to return from a trip to istanbul last month. investigators found her body there near ancient ruins. somebody had beaten her beyond recognition. this is new. she was dressed only in a t-shirt and panties. now foxnews.com reports that a man investigators have been questioning has apparently admitted, yes, he did have an affair with her and the "new york post," which this network's parent company owns, reports fbi agents say she was hanging with a criminal element during her trip. sierra's husband and brother went to turkey to try to find her before investigators discovered the body. they have since headed home but the investigation is far from over. no more regular mail on saturdays, that's it. at least come august. the head of the u.s. postal service says that will be the new normal starting at the end of the summer. officials tell us the agency is losing $25 million a day. it had to do something. here is wh

nup a farm in a rural community, somebody who grew up in an inner city, and they're different realities and we have to respect them, but what we know is the majority of responsible gun owners recognize we cannot have a situation in which 20 more of our children or 100 more of our children or 1,000 more of our children are shot and killed in a senseless fashion. there are commonsense steps we can take to build consensus around and we cannot be -- we cannot shy away from taking those steps. so bottom line is this, people. we got a lot of work to do. what we've learned over the last four years, at least what i've learned over the last four years, is that it won't be smooth. it won't be simple. there will be frustrations. there will be times where you guys are mad at me. i will occasionally read about it. but as long as we keep in mind why we came here in the first place, as long as we think back to whatever inspired each of us to say maybe i can give something back, maybe i can make a difference, maybe my purpose here on earth is not just thinking about what's in it for me. think

it in perspective, we are just getting going here. this storm just starting to wind up. in cities like boston, dealing with a slushy mess and snow right now. maine heavy snow for you. new york, just starting to turn over to snow but by the evening rush around 5:00 p.m. really going to get blasted there in new york city. heavy snow expected tonight. could pick up another eight inches to a foot and the word of caution today is get out early, get off the roads. many governors wanting you to do that very thing. here's a look at tomorrow then. still dealing with blizzard-like conditions in the cities including boston. this is a long duration of that and that's a problem with this system. storm:con for boston is a 10. that's the highest level here at the weather channel. you need caution with this. seeing the blizzard-like conditions, additional 12 to 18 inches tonight. the winds ferocious. also gusting up to 60 miles per hour so we'll see blowing, whiteout conditions in massachusetts tonight in to through tomorrow, as well. where we pick up another five to eight inches so blizzard-like conditions
